Plus - all of our residencies, workshops, and conference engagements are tailored to the schools, communities, and cultures we serve.
UBU PROJECT: MISSION | VISION | VALUES
MISSION: The prevention of youth suicide, addiction, and bullying, through social/emotional performing arts integration residencies
VISION: A world where every voice is heard and honored
VALUES: A fun, safe, creative, and nurturing educational environment where all are truly welcome
The UBU Project is a 501c3 performing arts education outreach organization,
providing social/emotional arts integration learning via week-long residencies for:
K-12 schools, Teen centers, Tribal communities, Juvenile detention facilities, and Institutions of higher learning. We also provide Professional development seminars, Masterclasses, Live performances, and Keynote addresses.
UBU residencies utilize music, movement, or theater to introduce, support, and enhance social/emotional learning, positive behavior intervention strategies, and safe and healthy student programs.
UBU Project Pedagogy
Our pedagogy comes from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran:
"The greatest teachers lead their students to the threshold of their own wisdom."
The UBU Project also takes great inspiration and wisdom from these words:
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree it will live its life believing it is stupid."
The UBU Project is dedicated to leading students along an interactive journey of self-discovery. This is achieved through a process based upon the principles of Socratic Seminar which are:
UBU SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM
The UBU Project's social/emotional and diversity equity & inclusion curricula is based upon what we call The UBU Treasure Chest as taught through one-week, arts integration residencies:
Hope | Esperanza
Resilience | Resistencia
Self-Compassion | Auto-Compasion
Empathy | Empatia
Students of all ages quickly discover that their UBU Treasure Chest can be found within their own hearts.
UBU (Performing) Arts Integration Curriculum
Much like the Saturday morning cartoon Schoolhouse Rock™, UBU Project Performing Arts Integration Residencies engage and utilize performing arts skills and curricula to introduce, support, and enhance the work already being in your classrooms and after-school programs. The exciting difference with UBU Project Arts Integration Residencies is that: all lyrics, movement, text, and scenes are created by your students! Each student’s deeper understanding of the four “treasure chest words” is the topic of an ongoing, week-long, interactive discussion that leads to the students creating their own original song, movement combination, or theatrical pieces.
Your students work with their UBU Teaching Artist to co-create their own original song based upon one, or more of The UBU Project's SEL Treasure Chest Words: HOPE, RESILIENCE, SELF-COMPASSION, EMPATHY
All students work in partnership with UBU Teaching Artist to create a movement piece based upon their own comprehension and application of The UBU Project's SEL Treasure Chest Words: HOPE, RESILIENCE, SELF-COMPASSION, EMPATHY
UBU residency students engage in numerous writing, story-telling, tableaux, and creative games and exercises to co-create their own theatre pieces based upon The UBU SEL Treasure Chest words: HOPE, RESILIENCE, SELF-COMPASSION, EMPATHY
*NOTE: All UBU Project curriculum and pedagogy support the CASEL SEL Competencies, and select State Performing Arts Standards, while also addressing certain tenants of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH).
